STATEMENT

Angie Jones, also known as Stix and Jones, is an American artist whose interdisciplinary practice encompasses painting, video, and sculpture. Angie examines the ever presence of media and technology in contemporary society though her work. Bridging the digital and physical realms, Angie's art engages viewers through faceted explorations. Utilizing techniques reminiscent of low polygon video game art, Angie's pieces undergo a process of deconstruction and reconstruction. Her work pulsates with vibrant neon colors and angular forms, challenging spatial boundaries within canvases and sculpture. These elements and fragmented figures serve as conduits, seamlessly connecting physical and digital dimensions.

Angie draws inspiration from both traditional and modern sources, inviting viewers to reconsider the intersections of history, technology, and science within art. Her use of augmented reality takes this experience to a new level, offering viewers an immersive journey that transcends conventional boundaries. At the heart of Angie's practice is a profound exploration of digital culture and its impact on our perception of reality. Her work serves as a thought-provoking commentary on the influence of media and technology on collective and individual consciousness. By straddling the past and the future, Angie challenges us to reconsider our relationship with art and imagery in an increasingly technologically saturated world.

Angie Jones resides and creates in Los Angeles, CA, and is represented by Corey Helford Gallery.

This painting delves into humans' challenges in navigating technology and contemporary communication. Through symbolic geometry, it explores the disconnect between one's true identity and the societal expectations imposed on individuals. It highlights the constant interference of technology, represented by static and interruptions, even while enjoying something as simple as a favorite song. Despite the bombardment of external influences projected onto our consciousness, the artwork suggests the importance of persistently striving to reconnect with our authentic selves.

(Dimensions: 10 feet wide by 4 feet tall)  A diptych of two canvases. This piece vibrates visually using 3D glasses.

"This world that we have around us is not a world that we receive but more a world that we create and make. Now, this seems a bit of a surprise because we really feel and we are very much attached to the fact that we are receiving these perceptions as opposed to creating them. But we do create the reality in which we live." ~ James Turrell

CHROMAKAT was featured in the “Buy Art Save Kittens” group show at Corey Helford Gallery.

All proceeds from the exhibit are reinvested back into the South LA-based nonprofit Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats to secure food and medical care for the city’s feral cat population. All artwork featured in the show is donated directly by the artists, spurred by a love for catkind.   Proceeds from this event go directly towards helping our furry friends in need.

This piece was inspired by Angie’s Cat - “Bacon” named after the famous painter. The digital piece has Augmented Reality that triggers off a QR Code to spring forth a cat that is all seeing.  No matter what angle the eyes follow you.

TEXTME" is Angie Jones’s contribution to the "Art Collector Starter Kit" tenth annual group show at Corey Helford Gallery. This geometric oil painting, rendered on a wood panel, delves into the intricate tapestry of communication in the modern age. An extra bit of fun for this piece included AUGMENTED REALITY.

Once a mobile device is pointed at the QR Code and THEN positioned in front of the painting, a portal opens to reveal an important text message sent at 2:21 am.

A text appears: “I love you” on the left, but on the right, the reply is “Chill.” In a world of fragmented communication, “Text Me” is a profound commentary on our digital interactions.

In a world where words flow in a digital stream, where tone, cadence, intention, and even punctuation are often left to the imagination, "Text Me" stands as a profound commentary on our contemporary modes of interaction. The painting captures the pulse of our era, where the relentless ping of incoming messages eternally disrupts the rhythm of language. "Text Me" is more than a painting; it's an invitation to engage, collect, and embrace the evolving language of art in the digital age.
